Professor Iona Heath may have retired from her inner-city practice in 2010, but the ex-RCGP president has certainly not shied away from controversial issues.
In the past year she has chaired a panel looking into two BMJ papers on statins after experts called for retractions of claims over side-effect data.
Described by colleagues as a ‘wonderful speaker with a vast intellect’, she also signed an open letter to the GMC urging the regulator to keep a register on doctors’ conflicts of interest.
