A GP practice in Hereford had to close and cancel appointments after a car crashed into the front of its building.
West Mercia Police told Pulse that the force was called to a report of a car that ‘had collided’ with the surgery building on Eastholme Avenue in Belmont around 10.30am yesterday (20 June).
Belmont Medical Practice told patients it had to shut completely as this was ‘a major incident’ that was ‘beyond their control’.
Pictures shared on social media show significant damage to a wall at the front of the building, which has been cordoned off by the police.
In a message on its website, the practice said: ‘This has caused significant disruption to patient appointments and we have had to close the surgery today.
‘Please rest assured that our team members are working tirelessly to resolve the situation as quickly as they can in order to restore normal services.’
‘We understand you may be disappointed and frustrated but would ask that you do not take this out on our team members.
‘Everyone at the surgery is trying their best to help patients in what are extremely difficult circumstances.’
Telephone access was restored today but patients were asked not to come to the surgery unless they already had an appointment.
Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICB declined to comment on the incident.
According to the Hereford Times, an ambulance was sent to the incident and on arrival found a woman, who was the driver of the car and a man who was in the building. Both were assessed by ambulance staff.
The driver of the car was uninjured and the man had sustained minor injuries. They received self-care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene.
Pulse has reported on similar incidents recently, with a GP surgery in Doncaster suffering thousands of pounds of damage after a car was driven straight into its building, destroying the waiting room.
And in January a car crashed into a GP practice in Cleveland causing a ‘major incident’ with heating, phone lines and electricity shut off or reduced.
