Dr John Chisholm was a hugely influential GPC chair – yet also a divisive figure in modern general practice.
As the chief negotiator of the new GP contract, he has been lauded for the benefits of the new deal – chiefly the out-of-hours opt-out – but also held responsible for its drawbacks.
After stepping down, he formed Concordia Health with fellow ex-negotiator Dr Simon Fradd, and his company has since gone on to win a number of APMS contracts, while championing a controversial realignment of skill mix in general practice using nurses.
