This award-winning photograph shows a retinal haemorrhage.

This picture shows a left superotemporal branch retinal vein occlusion and was a bronze winner in the 2009 Institute of Medical Illustrators awards. It was taken by Sarah Syme at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock.
