Travel medicine specialists Dr Ron Behrens and Dr Bernadette Carroll consider common problems for travellers.
This module will provide an update on travel medicine issues in primary care, including:
- Using Loperamide to manage travellers diarrhoea
- Advising women who are pregnant about risks involved with overseas travel
- Providing accelerated immunisation regimes for travellers who present close to their departure date
- Advising patients on the symptoms and management of acute mountain sickness
- Deciding on which anti-malarial is suitable for an individual patient and advising patients on how to prevent bites
- Advising travellers on medication and equipment to carry to deal with minor medical problems
- Assessing patients with cardiac or lung problems on their fitness to fly
- Considering precautions and preparations that parents with infants or young children will need to take
