Current guidance for employers and tools to help you quantify your risk
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NO LONGER RELEVANT AND IS NOT BEING UPDATED BUT HAS BEEN LEFT ON THE SITE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES ONLY
This information is sourced from NHS Employers, NHSE the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, GMC and the BMA:
GMC guidance states that doctors should be immunised against common serious communicable diseases unless medically contraindicated
A risk assessment should not replace the advice some doctors will have received explaining that they have already been determined as clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable
Employers are advised to assess health safety and welfare of employees via:
- Workplace assessment (hygiene measures, safe systems of work, review use of AGP procedures, correct use of PPE, including necessary training)
- Workforce assessment (to identify those individuals with potentially increased vulnerability to infection or adverse outcomes from Covid-19; specific long term health conditions, sex, older age and pregnancy, BAME background and obesity)
- Individual assessment (race and ethnicity, age, weight, underlying health conditions, disability, pregnancy)
Employers should discuss implications and take appropriate measures to mitigate risk of Covid-19 infection risk to NHS staff
The BMA has endorsed a simple risk stratification tool. The tool uses a scoring mechanism to help you quantify your biological risk
There has been a disproportionate impact of the virus on NHS workers from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. The SAAD (Safety Assessment and Decision) Score for BAME Community has been developed for all GP practice staff of all ethnicities
