GPs face another year of driving efficiency savings in other areas of the NHS after the Department of Health said it wanted the quality and productivity indicators in QOF to continue for another year.
The Department of Health said the indicators for emergency admissions, outpatient referrals and A&E attendances would be included in the QOF for 2013/14, under the terms of the contract deal it has threatened to impose.
The move comes after Pulse revealed practices were struggling with ‘pedantic’ claims over the QP indicators and more than a quarter of practices failed to gain the maximum points available under prescribing indicators introduced last year - indicators which were subsequently withdrawn.
