Patients can now book a PCR Covid test on a GP recommendation alone, whatever their symptoms are.
Since earlier this month (5 March), the online booking page has included an additional reason for getting a test.
The aim has been to make it easier for a patient to book a test when recommended to do so by a GP.
A primary care bulletin from NHS England said: ‘The patient is now able to choose as a reason for getting a test the option “A GP or other healthcare professional has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test”.’
This is irrespective of the patients’ symptoms.
Under this option, they do not require a referral to book a test, with NHS England saying it makes the process ‘more straightforward’ for GPs and patients.
