How ‘greedy’ dentists are fleecing patients, hope of universal flu vaccine and chocolate ‘boosts heart health’

‘Greedy’ NHS dentists are ‘fleecing’ patients, according to the Daily Mail’s front page, with patients feeling pressured to have costly hygienist treatments.

The undercover investigation by Which? and Healthwatch England also found three in 10 patients could not find an appointment when they needed it.

Researchers at UCL and Oxford University discovered that around four in ten Britons have developed a high level of immunity to flu from previous infections, reports the Telegraph.

The results suggest that a universal vaccine could be created which reduces the severity and spread of not only seasonal flu, but also strains like bird and swine flu.

Finally, a news story in the Mirror claims that eating two chocolate bars a day can cut the risk of heart disease and stroke.

New research suggests either milk or dark chocolate can lead to a 25% lower risk of heart disease and 22% lower risk of stroke.

Lead researcher Professor Phyo Myint, of the University of Aberdeen, said: ‘It has some components which may be beneficial. They include cocoa, flavonoids, milk, and in some chocolate, nuts. There is existing evidence that these can help protect heart health.’
