Dr Poulter failed to endear himself to medical colleagues over a number of issues this year, most notably the A&E row.
Love him or loathe him, the former hospital doctor´s calls for more of a ‘Bargain Hunt’ approach in the NHS - and other outbursts - grab headlines. His comments over the crisis in A&E even earnt him the unusual distinction of the first health minister to be threatened with a GMC referral by a GPC negotiator.
As our panel put it: ‘Dr Dan feels the need to shoot from the hip on the knee-jerk issues of the day, demonstrating little understanding of primary care in the first place. Unfortunately for us, he is looked on benignly from above.’
