GPs have often suspected that the GMC lives in a different world. But this was confirmed beyond all doubt in January when Pulse revealed that the regulator spends approximately £280,000 a year on private medical insurance for almost 500 of its staff. The subsequent outcry over this use of GP fees forced the regulator to put the policy under review.
