As director of primary care commissioning at NHS England, it is down to Dr Geddes to ponder the practical implications of policy.
This year, that meant the York GP was involved in: allocating resources from the £60m rescue package for struggling GP practices; rolling out a GP mental health support service that went live in January; working to reduce bureaucracy in practices; and attempting to resolve the problem of rising GP indemnity costs. Quite a list.
Dr Geddes is still practising as a GP partner in York and he is also a fitness-to-practise medical panellist and trustee of The Hut, a mental health charity.
