As national lead of the RCGP’s network for newly qualified GPs, First5, Dr Phil Williams is working to improve communication between young GPs and the college.
The Lincoln GP pushed through a motion for a First5 voting seat on the council, giving newly qualified GPs a say for the first time.
He is currently working to create a structure to improve communication between First5 GPs and the RCGP and had a motion approved for a First5 voting seat on the Council, giving First5 GPs who make up a third of the college’s members a say for the first time.
For those GPs finding their way through the first five years of their career his advice is to stop worrying about the politics and focus on the patients because they’re what makes being a GP ‘the best job in the world’.
And he has another word of advice: “You should work one session a week less than you think you should,” he adds.
